HSEQ and Risk Manager

Our client, a chemical manufacturing company based in KwaZulu-Natal is looking for a HSEQ and Risk Manager
Job Description:
The HSEQ manager role is to manage and maintain the Combined Management System (CMS) for Health, Safety, Environment and Quality processes and procedures, primarily in accordance with ISO 9001, 14001 & 18001 approvals as required. Head of QHSE will set standards and influence others to make the right choice, driving to zero incidents and injuries. Communicate learnings and best practices to promote safety and sustainability, creating a network of sharing and learning within the organization. Deliver new levels of safety and environmental performance through continuous improvement, empowering every voice to make our workplace safer and more sustainable. Navigate trade-offs and assess risk to create the best solutions to challenges, balancing Man, Machine, Method and Material. This position also is responsible for setting the strategic direction and maintaining the Quality Management Systems to assure the AME. Manufacturing sites and contracted third parties are producing compliant products with the right quality.  Ensuring legal compliance (national, regional and local) with existing and proposed legislation for coverage of all sites (manufacturing and storage) within the region of responsibility as it relates to the industry.
Covering 4 manufacturing plants, 1 minority investment plant, 6 contract manufacturing sites, 25 storage locations (5 major) and 7 3PL locations for HSEQ and risk compliance with storage of raw materials.
Minimum Requirements:
    • 15-20 years’ experience in Industrial environments as HSEQ or risk manager
    • Recognised safety and environmental qualification (diploma level or equivalent) and should hold an auditor’s qualification for, and have experience in, ISO 9001, 14001, 18001. NVQ level4/5 Occupational Safety and Health Practice
    • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or Chemistry/Chemical engineering
Technical Skills Requirements:
    • SAP QMS
    • Analytical chemistry – understanding of methods and results
    • Corporate value chain (Scope3) accounting and reporting standard for Greenhouse gasses – understanding of reporting requirements
    • Environmental quality measures – understanding and scope of measure that can be used to improve environmental impacts
    • Understanding of Fire engineering designs and sprinkler systems and installations
    • Understanding of associated costs related to fire systems and sprinklers installations and upgrades
    • Understanding of Fire Security Systems for Risk mitigation and controls
    • To Establish and Maintain the AME Manufacturing/Storage sites metrics and management review
    • Well versed with laboratory notebook writing, recording, reviewing, maintaining and archiving of analytical data
    • Put in place LCMS in all the Quality Laboratories creation of tools and analytical methods standards for finish products
    • Lead and coordinate the Quality Steering CommitteeCross
    • Contamination Prevention Program lead and liaise globally for AME
Key Responsibilities:
Legal Compliance:
    • Dangerous Goods Advisor Policies, trainings, certifications, Audits (IATA, IMDG)
    • Well versed with the internal and contractual customer audit/inspection to maintain and regulate systems
    • Site based HSEQ Management Plans
    • Risk Registers, SDS, MSDS sheets
    • Emergency preparedness and response requirements
    • Ensuring all safety related incidents are investigated in a timely manner and continuous improvement initiatives are driven following incidents
    • Drive Environmental sustainability measures and reporting
    • Lead a team of HSEQ coordinators at sites as required
    • Identify areas of gaps and work to improve and sustain safety performance of the region and Audit various safety systems
    • To establish and maintain, as per the corporate environment guidelines, self-team adherence to the SHE norms, and ISO certifications 18001, 14001 and other regulatory norms laid down by regulatory agencies
Risk Management:
    • Risk Registers, SDS, MSDS sheets
    • Disaster recovery plans for each operation and storage location
    • Emergency response plan for each site
    • SC Risk assessment/engagement with external auditors at appropriate intervals to access risk and gaps against mitigation plans
